Wild Goose Chases & 12 Days, Day 3

Wow.

Sometimes after spending time in Bible study, that is the only word left on my tongue to say.

I just had one of those lessons...one in which I realized something simple yet oh so powerful:

Each and every temptation is designed by the enemy of our souls to cause us to disobey God.

Yeah, I know...obvious.  But wait.  There's more:

Much as satan tempted Christ when He was weak from hunger (Matt 4:1-11)...our enemy's goal is to get us to give in...to disobey God...to lay down the cross we have been asked to carry...to indulge our flesh rather than crucify it as we are called to.

And as if that weren't enough, still more:

The hater of our souls will often use scripture to pull us into sin. He showed this when tempting Christ in the desert when he quoted the Psalms to try to lure Christ into testing God's willingness to fulfill His promises.

I have just found my way back to my proper path after spending many days following a wild goose.  It was one that was covered in scripture, but after a lot of tracking I found myself hopelessly lost.  I circled for awhile, then sat down...ready to set up camp in the cold desert that lacked the warmth of His presence when I suddenly heard the sweet whisper of my name on the breeze.

It was my Lord calling me back to His table, to the Truth in His Word...and as I studied the scriptures this morning, I realized how intelligent and savy our enemy can be...how well studied he is on the hearts of those who love the Lord...how he will distort what we think we know and cause us to pull away all while thinking we hadn't moved an inch.

For any who are also out in that cold desert, running after a vibrantly colored wild goose...please know that it is never to late to send up the signal flare as the Holy Spirit is only as far away as a simple call for help.

And from here, I jump into Day 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas blogging celebration I am doing:
Christmas Badge
For today's introduction, I give you an author that I found over the summer ~ Travis Thrasher.
His books are...well, too many for me to list here!!  ha ha....BUT the one that I discovered him by is Ghostwriter and his newest novel, to be released soon, is called Every Breath You Take.

I bet you are so wondering why I would use attacks from satan to intro this fellow blogger, aren't ya???  Hee hee - allow me to explain:

When I first grabbed Ghostwriter from the bookstore shelf, I wasn't sure what to expect.  But as I read this book, I found myself intrigued by the battle that swam around the main character as he tried to live his life.  His sin was literally haunting him...and as he fought to right himself over and over, he found only deeper holes in which he had to pull himself out of.  I found much truth being played out in this man's battle to find freedom even as he struggled with the very truth that would set him free...and I could see parts of my own life displayed in the pages.

I have a few authors that I really love to read, but I've found that many who have developed a following have also become too "big" and the fans have no access but thru agents and PO Boxes.  Not so here as Travis uses his blog to reach out to those who follow him, lay out his heart for all to see and show you a large part of who he really is...and in so doing, makes himself real to those who enjoy his written word.

It is obvious that he loves the Lord and that he understands the struggle that comes in trying to overcome the demons that plague those who desire to follow Him.  He is a devoted family man, works hard not to fit into any type of mold when it comes to his work and is passionate about reading, writing and music.  I would encourage you to take the time to pop over to his place to browse around...and that you would consider picking up a book or two of his as he has books to fit almost any genre you are into!

That's admirable that he keeps in touch with people. It really IS hard when a blogger "tips". Nice.

Thanks for another fine Day. :)

It is - he is very friendly and quite funny...but I admire the fact that he is just him. It a breath of fresh air in the midst of other authors who become detatched.

Thanks, my friend! :)

Hi Bina,

Loved the devotional portion of this post--SO true. I think that more people need a revelation of the spirit realm. We live in a battle zone, and your words will encourage many to stay focused and stay true to their First Love.

Thanks, Julie!
Funny how the most obvious stuff is often the little things that we can forget or get side-tracked with. It was an eye opener from me...and I am glad to know that it touched someone else as well.
Hugs, Bina

Great post. It is so scary to think of how smart and cunning the devil is, how he knows how to play on our weaknesses so that we don't even realize he is doing it. Yet we can rejoice in knowing that our Father is really only a cry away!
Will check out Travis Thrasher! (all these blizzards, I have time to read!)

Great post Bina. Very insightful. Our enemy IS crafty and cunning and we cannot underestimate him but we know our God will see us through.

Awesome post! My husband always says the greatest trick the enemy ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist. We are fighting powers and workers of darkness that we cannot see. Chilling to think many times I don't get spiritually ready for battle.
