Buried Alive: Book Review

Title: Buried Alive
Author: Roy Hallums
ISBN: 1595551700
Pages: 256

One word describes this book for me: Devoured!!!  No, I mean it...  I got the book in the mail yesterday...and I finished it this morning.  I literally inhaled this story.

On November 1, 2004 an American was kidnapped in Iraq.  He was held for almost a year by a group of terrorists determined to sell him back to his country for a large sum of money...and this is his story, told in his words.

While I would say that this book would not be for the weak of heart, I find that Roy Hallums tells his story with a touch of humor, simple words and an easy flow that makes it impossible to not get pulled into the flow...and I found myself wincing and shaking my head at the amazing amount of torture and cruelty lavished on him by his captors.  Never overly descriptive of the abuse, Mr. Hallums lays out a clear picture of his abduction and life lived bound and blind-folded in many "safe houses" throughout the country.

Book Cover Information:
In November 2004 Roy Hallums was working late at his office in Iraq at the Saudi Arabian Trading and Construction Company, supposedly well-protected by armed security guards, when four kidnappers broke in and hauled him away at gunpoint. The next ten months were the darkest of his life. Hallums spent most of his time in a concrete pit beneath a farmhouse, constantly bound and blindfolded. A small pipe in the ceiling provided the room’s only oxygen – and its only link to the outside world. Hallums banked on one group in particular not forgetting his existence—the US military. And sure enough, on September 7, 2006, they successfully rescued him. This is the edge-of-your-seat story of a trip through hell for Hallums, the daring rescue mission, and faith that brought him through the experience.

I was reminded very much of Joseph's captivity in the Old Testiment as I read of Roy's simple pleas to God for assurance of His presence...and I would smile softly as He answered, even in the midst of the sheer agony that was laid out before this man.  His is a story of faith and determination...and one that should be shared!

I review for BookSneeze
**Thomas Nelson provided me this book for a book review and is allowing me to keep this title once finished. I get nothing else in way of compensation...other than the chance to fill my heart and soul with an excellent read. :) **

Looking up as always...

Wow, was that hard to read? I mean, the awfulness of things? I'm thinking about Booksneeze, but I review for Blogspot Tour already. Fun, huh?

That book looks amazing! Hard to read, but worth it in the end! I love your comparison to Joseph

Karen...it wasn't all that hard to read as the author did a great job of not being overly descriptive of what was being done to him. It was intense, tho...I can say that.

my alicia...it was very worth it and, as I said, he writes it in a way that makes you want to keep going.

Thanks for your comments, gals!

How cool is that--didn't know about BookSneeze. Thanks for the review...and good to know other women out there are guilty of abandoning household chores to inhale books. :-)
